Four
Months of Website Building
November 2007
It has now been a week more than
four months since I really went to work on this project. I've put up four
completely new sites, bought domains and hosting for about four more, and
completely rebuilt and significantly enlarged and improved two previously
existing websites that were just hobbies before.
My skills have significantly improved just by virtue of doing it - and I
want to suggest that you use Front Page as I have discovered some of its
power and usefulness that I wasn't aware of before.
Learn about Dynamic Web Pages - a
feature of Front Page. I changed the navigation on two websites last week
- over SIX HUNDRED pages of changes - in less than 30 minutes from start to
finish - including uploading the changed pages. Really! It would have
taken me at least a three days before or I just would not have done it.
The progression of skills also means that I have studied search engine
optimization a bit [see
The SEO Book]
- and am actually embarrassed when I look at how I did some of my old sites
- and even in the design area and how the websites look in different
browsers (this IS important - Front Page to the rescue!).
Some of my websites, when I look at them NOW - need great improvement. I am
going to rebuild a few more of my existing sites as I think the improvements
will REALLY improve results for my sites that already have good traffic.
Discouraging that I see these
problems? NO! I am quite happy that I have new eyes and new skills to be
able to see what needs to improve AND how to do it.
So . . . all this babbling is just about learning more and how it just comes
to you. I haven't really gotten dreary manuals out to study - I've learned
more by practice and talking with a few others who are attempting the same
thing.
I'm not rich yet - nor am I bringing in US$100,000 per day - I never
promised myself or you that. But, I can see improvements in traffic and
effectiveness. I AM getting there.
Stay tuned for the next update.
