Online
Resources to Help you Build your Websites
My experience has been that the
great majority of website building information on the Internet gives you
only a very small portion of the information that you need - and then wants
to sell you something.
To some degree that is why I
built this website and I believe this website offers more free
get-you-started advice than anywhere else on the Web.
But, there is so much to learn
that really no one website could get it all to you anyway.
My personal experience has been
that online forums have helped me more than anything else. A place
where I could ask Newbie questions and hopefully, get them answered in a way
I could understand [though sometimes not! See the Blog Section of this
website].
Place I hang out? Where do
I go when I need questions answered and problems solved? Three places:
The
Working Nomad
Forum: Perfect for the Newbie, real "little"
people making a living with websites and all the problems we face.
Lots of helpful people, though even here answers to questions can get too
technical - even when they don't really need to be.
Digital Point
Forums - can get technical and over-your-head way
too fast - but often useful to find things you need to know.
A CAUTION about forums. Be
careful, weigh advice and realize that you never really know who the advice
is coming from. Are you taking the advice of a millionaire who has
made their fortune on the Web? Or perhaps from a Wannabe who hasn't
yet made a penny, but thinks they know it all? Fact is, you just don't
know as most people don't like to reveal their exact websites and exactly
what they do and how they are doing.
But, generally, if you hang around forums for a while you will come to know
the cast of characters - and who tends to give sound advice and who tends to
get too technical too quickly (baffle them with bullshit?).
Look in the blog section of this
website - I do talk a bit about technical aspects - and how you need to not
worry about them - and stay away from getting too technical, as you can lose
site of the big picture.
