Locations: Relocation Paradises
Since an Internet business will
allow you to "retire" wherever you would like, what are the things you need
to consider, particularly if you are an older person?
Obviously, a good Internet
connection is foremost - otherwise you can not continue to operate your
business. These type businesses DO need you to monitor them almost daily.
You may not need to do anything - but you do need to look and see that your
website is up and operating - that your host has not had a problem and shut
down its servers. This does happen. Not often - but it is important that
you at least know if your website(s) are operating and working for you.
After good Internet connections
are a host of other issues to consider. I grew up in a desert and I
want/love to be near the sea. That's important to me - what is important to
YOU?
In the process of thinking about
where in the world you would like to live - if there were NO LIMITATIONS -
consider these issues:
What does it take to live there
legally? What is the visa situation? Are "retirement" or other long-term
visas easily available?
What is the cost of living? Can
you afford to live there? What is the cost of renting versus owning?
Sometimes theses costs are way out of whack from what you might expect. A
million dollar house in the United States, for example - might rent for
US$5-10,000 per month. But in some overseas locations, like where I live
right now - it might cost only US$2500 or even less! Thus, better to rent
than to own.
What is the crime rate? Are you
safe? Will you and your partner need to hide behind locked doors? Or, can
you sit on the patio or in your garden and enjoy life?
Is medical care of good quality?
Are there good international standard hospitals and clinics near by? Third
world health care - I promise - is something you do not want to experience.
But, you will also find excellent facilities in many places you would never
have expected. Thailand, for example, has excellent quality
"International" hospitals with very good care for 1/5th to 1/20th the cost
of care in the USA.
What is the local weather like?
I love rain AND hot and sunny, but I hate cold. What do you like?
